Interior Progress

We are finally getting to the point where we are settling in and we have made so much progress on the house...(yes we still have on room of random boxes...we don't have unpacking fairies that work for us) Just wanted to share some before and afters of where we are at so far. Still way more on my list...but it feels a lot like home already.

NOTE: I think I should inform some of my readers who are new to the blogosphere that the words in purple are links...you can click on them and a new window will open up. They are there to help you understand where my mind is at when I am writing!

And I am feeling inspired today...I have some more "Deep Thoughts" waiting for you at the end of this post!

Now onto the house!

Here is our dining room shortly after we closed on the house. Our method was to fill the boxes we had at the apartment, bring them tot he house, unpack them, then bring the empty boxes back for the next load...we spent $0.00 on  moving boxes and I only bought one roll of packing tape (I had a bunch left over from the last move!)

When we moved things over I tried to at least keep them in categories so that the unpacking would be somewhat organized...it really helped.

I got to make my first trip to IKEA to purchase these Ektorp Sofas..well, actually just to try them, we cam home and ordered the online. They were delivered one day while Phil was here at work...He assembled them over his lunch break. We love them!

See those lamps behind the couches (one is not quite done yet)...look for a future post on those!

Remember this shot of our Guestroom just after we painted it?

Well here it is now. I think the wall color ("Sparrow" by Behr) looks even better with some furnishings in the room.

I used the bed spread as inspiration for the wall color...here is how the two match up...

This house is truly perfect for us, the only issue was closet space..Phil  and I both have big wardrobes. A solution presented itself in a tiny room at the top of stairs...a twin bed would be about all that would fit in this room...with three other bedrooms and space over the garage to finish off we will have plenty of room to grown into when we are blessed with little kiddos! All that said I did not feel bad about losing a bedroom for a dressing room! I mean seriously...what girl would ever say no to an opportunity like that!

Since I believe in using any and everything as decor...even functional items, I tried to put the prettiest shoes in the most visible places. Below are our "His and Hers" kicks from our wedding last July! I love being reminded of that day and the promises we made in those shoes!

Alright, now to the Bedroom. It turned out so nice, and even though there is still more to do it;s already a soothing space...perfect for falling asleep..or sleeping in. Here it is just after painting in "Rocky Mountain Sky"

And voila (Imagine me waving a little wand...)

The vanity found a new little nook to call home. You can follow that project here and here.

Here is a closer look at the wall color against the bedspread I pulled from. "Rocky Mountain Sky" is from Behr also.

If you promise to keep checking in I promise to keep providing updates on our progress. I don't see this blog just as a way to "show off" my house. Over the years I have received so many compliments on my various domiciles and friends ask me how I do it. That is why I share with you! Yes I take pride in my home...but don't assume it is perfect...often I am moving clutter out of my shot moments before I take it...In the midst of that, though, is beauty...and for me, surrounding myself with things I find beautiful causes me to appreciate and be reminded of the beauty all around me, in my husband, my family, and my friends, in the flowers and the birds singing outside my window, in all creation. So even amidst the clutter of our lives (job stress, difficult people, obligations, worries, etc) there is beauty. For me my home is just one place in my life that those beliefs are manifest, for others it is elsewhere (life is way more than throw pillows and duvet covers), nonetheless beauty is always there, sometimes it's just waiting for you to look :)

You know I love to here from you...see that little "comments" link right under this post...click there and say hello, share you thoughts on our progress, share your own "nesting" stories...what was the first thing you did when you moved into your current place? What paint colors do you have in your house and where...how did you pick them?

  2. Kate, the beauty you see in the world is reflected in your relationships/friendships. What you look for in us you always find, and this blesses us.
It is so clear that this is the way you see the world, as your home reflects such peace and beauty. I can't wait to see it in person!

  3. Moving in is so much work! I'm currently sitting with boxes around me, waiting for me to pack them up. I hate moving! Anyway, less about me... I love your dining room, especially the crates used as wine storage. Your living room is adorable--love the fireplace! I was loving the guest room color until I saw your bedroom--rocky mountain sky is my new favorite paint color! I love it! Good luck with the rest of your unpacking! Found you through Serenity Now!

    1. I don;t know what is worse, moving or preparing to move! I hate the moving part...unpacking is somewhat satisfying though, to see everything come together, so stay focused on life after the move as motivation to get through the packing etc..that's what got me through anyway. Best to you with your move and thank your for you checkin' out my little blog!

  4. I LOVE your decorating style! I would have every single one of those rooms in my house. You have a great eye for colours too. I always find picking paint colours to be the most difficult part of decorating a room!

    1. A lot of people say that about picking colors. I think the key is finding an inspiration for the room, either from the bedspread, curtain, a rug, or a fun accessory..then it;s just collecting paint chips, bringing them home and trying them out, it is time consuming but worth it! Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  5. Very beautiful, and I love the paint colors you chose! It took me some time to work up the courage to paint my walls, but in our new home, I dove right in. Still, I never see my rooms as finished, they are a work in progress in our home.

PS You are soooo right about having a walk-in closet. In Germany people don't really have that, but we have built our own one this year. Score! ;-)

    1. Thanks Anja! Paint is such a cheap way to change a room and I am so affected by the color and lighting in my environment that this was a priority for me. I think it is also one of those initial things that new homeowners can do to make the home feel like theirs. There is something about having your own paint colors on the walls as opposed to the previous owner that gives it a sense of "home" Congrats to you for diving in!
